Five tips to have healthy skin all summer long
1. Wake up and exfoliate
Good routines are critical to sticking to a summer skin care program, and it all begins with how you begin your day. By starting with exfoliation, you remove dead skin cells that clog pores and prevent proper hydration. Those pesky cells can lead to breakouts and unsightly blemishes.
Launch your morning routine by exfoliating with a body scrub before applying any moisturizer, makeup or toner. Once you rid the dead skin, it’s recommended to follow it up with a hydrating body cream, then an SPF lotion.
New Beginnings Spa offers a variety of exfoliating treatments that can set you on a path for healthy skin all summer long.
2. Stay hydrated
Summer tends to be hot and humid, and that sweltering weather combination can often lead to dehydration. By sweating more, bodies tend to lose additional water and electrolytes, which can cause dry skin, breakouts and wrinkles.
Water is necessary for the body to regulate temperature, maintain moisture of the skin, and detoxify. Drink at least 64 ounces of water each day (or, eight 8-ounce glasses) in order to make sure your body is functioning properly.
Tired of drinking water? Consider adding cantaloupe and watermelon to your diet in order to improve your summer skin care and get a dose of delicious, summertime produce.
3. There’s never enough sunscreen
Most people know to apply sunscreen before spending time outside, but that will only get you so far in protecting your skin. It’s important to apply sunscreen every two hours, or after swimming or sweating. A product with an SPF 30 is generally enough to protect your skin against skin cancer or aging, and there’s a wide variety of products on the market that cater to different skin conditions.
4. Beware of dry skin
Summer heat will dry out your skin, and it’s important to make sure your skin is moisturized with a variety of techniques and tools.
Use a hydrating masque once or twice a week to keep your skin stimulated and improve its elasticity. Many estheticians recommend using boosters in addition to a moisturizer and toner to improve the health of the skin’s pores.
5. Treating sunburns
Even while following the tips above, it’s inevitable that you will experience sunburn or skin damage during the summer. If you end up with a sunburn, it’s essential to apply a cooling balm and a deep moisturizing cream as part of your summer skin care.
To avoid further damage from sunburns, you can add anti-aging lotions and creams to repair and protect your skin from UV damage.
