If you enjoy helping people, are interested in working directly with patients, and have good communication skills, then getting your practical nurse training from Dawn Career Institute may be a good option for you! - Fully Equipped Labs With Simulation Training
DCI provides labs that are fully equipped with the tools and equipment that you can expect to be using in your job as a Licensed Practical Nurse. In addition, our students train using specialized simulator manikins that offer a realistic training experience. These manikins are used to simulate a variety of scenarios that healthcare professionals may encounter and provide immediate feedback and evaluation on student performance. They’re a valuable tool for students to practice and perfect their skills in a safe and controlled environment!
- Clinical Training With Actual Patients
Our Practical Nurse program includes clinical training beginning in your second quarter and continuing through the remaining quarters. During this special training, you’ll work onsite in actual medical facilities shadowing a qualified professional where you can apply the skills you’ve learned during your campus labs!
- Qualified Instructors
DCI’s course instructors, lab instructors and clinical instructors are Registered Nurses and are required to have at least 3 years of nursing experience. In addition, instructors teaching Practical Nursing courses have a minimum of Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Students benefit from the real-world experience from instructors who have worked in the field.
- Extra Lab Availability
The Practical Nurse program offers open lab time during specified weeks that is fully staffed with instructors for students who are interested in, or may need, additional training on specific skills.

What Does an LPN Do?
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) play a vital role in delivering compassionate, hands-on patient care under the supervision of a physician or other authorized healthcare provider. They perform a wide range of clinical responsibilities, including measuring and recording vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration, while accurately documenting patient information in electronic health record systems.
LPNs provide direct patient care through services such as wound care, urinary catheter insertion, monitoring and removal, initiating IV therapy for adult patients, and administering select medications within their scope of practice. They carefully monitor patients for changes in condition, identify potential adverse reactions to medications or treatments, and promptly communicate concerns to the healthcare team. LPNs also collect laboratory specimens, help maintain a safe and comfortable care environment, and provide emotional support by listening to patients’ concerns and answering questions about their care.
In addition to providing direct patient care, Licensed Practical Nurses may supervise nursing assistants and nursing aides under the direction of a registered nurse or other licensed healthcare professionals authorized to practice in the state, including physicians, physician assistants, podiatrists, and optometrists.

Where Can LPNs Work?
The Practical Nurse diploma program is designed to prepare the student for an entry-level position in medical settings such as nursing care facilities, home health care centers, heath care provider offices, clinics, and hospice facilities.
Our Partnership With Foulk Living
Foulk Living, which is helping the LPN students develop and learn in a positive environment, have the opportunity to observe their abilities. When the students complete their training, if Foulk Living has an open position, we hope to be able to recruit them to join our team. It’s challenging to hire LPNs, and us having this program will help us have a steady pool to recruit from when we have openings.

Credentialing
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate receives a diploma. Graduates of DCI’s Practical Nurse program may be eligible to take:
- NCLEX-PN – National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses
(in accordance with the regulations set forth in The State of Delaware Division of Professional Regulation 1900 Board of Nursing section 6.0 requirements and procedures for licensure) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Approval to take the examination is not automatic. Successfully passing the NCLEX is one of several requirements for licensure.
Requirements for licensure vary among states. To locate the licensure eligibility requirements of another state, please contact the Board of
Nursing of that state. Licensure is required for employment as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
