Total Course Length: 5 Weeks
Delivery Method: Hybrid*
*The EKG course is designed as a hybrid blended course with students working online in addition to attending lab classes on Mondays at 1 PM. The Final Exam is on the last Friday of the course only on campus.
This Exam Prep Course is designed for individuals who have prior healthcare training and/or are licensed/certified in a healthcare field and/or are currently working in the healthcare industry. The course provides individuals with an understanding of the responsibilities associated with those of an EKG Technician. The course provides an overview of anatomy and physiology, the cardiovascular system, disease and wellness, and clinical procedures necessary to complete an EKG, including the steps necessary to prepare reports for hospitals and doctor’s offices. In addition, the course promotes communication skills, legal and ethical considerations, safety measures, and emergency response. Upon successful completion of this course, a Certificate of Completion will be issued.
Course Outcomes
These objectives are adapted from the core knowledge that the NHA expects you to know to successfully pass their test.
- Set up and administer EKGs (electrocardiograms) and stress tests
- Prepare patients for Holter or ambulatory monitoring
- Edit and deliver final test results to physicians for analysis
- Schedule appointments
- Transcribe physicians’ interpretations

Certification
Once a student has completed this course, they will have the option to apply for the exam to become a Certified EKG Technician through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Prior to applying for the exam, students must complete 10 EKG’s and supply documentation with their application. During enrollment with the NHA, students will have to attest to completion of GED or High School Diploma. Testing to become a Certified EKG Technician is conducted by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). An application and testing fee must be submitted by the student to NHA prior to receiving a testing date. For more information, please visit www.nhanow.com.
Testing Site
Dawn Career Institute is a testing site for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Individuals who submit their application and testing fee to NHA can take the EKG Technician certification exam at the College.
Non-Credit Courses
Dawn Career Institute’s exam prep courses are designed to prepare individuals for professional opportunities and advancement in their current field of study or area of employment. Individuals receive hands-on education through the guidance of qualified faculty in both practice and theory, all reinforced with interaction with professionals in specialized industries.
Exam prep courses are excluded from accreditation with the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), and licensing from the Commission for Independent Education, CIE.
